What this server hosts, how, and at what trade-offs.
oxmo.org is a single hand-administered server hosting four public sites: a forum open since 22 February 2002, a text-tools portal, IP address diagnostics, and a DNS and mail audit.
What “self-hosted” means here
One machine, in a room, with an operating system, a web server and a database kept up to date by hand. No shared hosting, no cloud, no platform between you and the service. What runs here is visible here — and so are the outages.
There is a real trade-off, and you should know it: a single machine. It reboots, its disk ages, its connection can drop. The status panel on the home page queries all four sites at the moment you load it — that is a measurement, not a promise.
No external resources
No remote fonts, no CDN, no library loaded elsewhere, no analytics. The server’s content security policy forbids it, which makes the promise checkable in your browser’s network tab rather than merely stated.
The four sites
- www.forum.oxmo.org — the forum, online since 2002: over a million posts, 58,500 threads, eight sections.
- tools.oxmo.org — passwords, encoding, hashes, text diff, JSON.
- ip.oxmo.org — public address, operator, autonomous system, ping, traceroute, speed, CIDR maths.
- dns.oxmo.org — records, delegation, DNSSEC, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MTA-STS.
The last three share one design, inherited from the forum’s grey theme. This home page deliberately departs from it: it introduces the sites, it is not a fifth one.
